Show me Tell me Overview

This page unravels the "show me tell me" test
It's not as difficult as you might imagine
Examiners are not going to try and trick you
Nobody wants to do this in any great detail in the middle of a thunderstorm!
The full list of questions and answers are linked at the bottom of this page
At the start of your driving test you'll be asked two questions about possible vehicle checks you would carry out

You'll be asked both "Tell me" and "Show me"

Lets start:

Q. Tell me how you would check that the power steering is working before starting a journey

A. If the steering becomes heavy the system may not be working properly. Before starting a journey two simple checks can be made. Gentle pressure on the steering wheel, whilst the engine is running, should result is a slight but noticeable movement as the system begins to operate

A. Alternatively, turning the wheel just after moving off will give an immediate indication that the power assistance is functioning

Q. Open the bonnet, identify where you would check the engine oil level and tell me how you
would check that the engine has sufficient oil

A. Identify dipstick / oil level indicator, describe check of oil level against the min/max markers
